Haiti Earthquake
Following the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti on Tuesday 12 January, the Bishop of Chichester has called on members of the diocese to pray for the people of Haiti. The Bishop has sent a message of support to the Anglican Bishop of Haiti the Rt Revd Jean Zache Duracin who is based in Port au Prince. Donations of money to bring emergency relief should be directed
through the Disasters Emergency Committee charities. TEAR Fund is one of these charities and speaking to them they have already sent money out to Haiti which their country director is using to help those suffering. Any cheques payable to St Mary’s Ticehurst marked for the Haiti Appeal will get the money to this Appeal or you can use the methods of donating shown on TV & press. [16 Jan 2010]

April
Room for all.
It has been good to see the St Mary’s Room offer the church new and improved ways of serving the community. By the time this is published our first funeral will have taken place in the church where the mourners will be able to proceed through to the room and have the reception there. The family are delighted that this option is available. Two baptisms will also have taken place and the family will use the room afterwards for the celebratory party.
As I have done Baptism visits over the last two months families are considering whether to use the room or not. Two families have booked in so far. Tots time has already moved into the space (Thursday 9.45am) and ‘First Steps’ our new drop in for parents and carers with children under 2 and pregnant mums (check our calendar for which Wednesday's) starts on the 5th May 9.30am. Catherine Baigent, our Children's Worker, is organizing this (see who's who for contact details). Refreshments provided and age appropriate toys and play mats on offer. Kristin Stevenson, our other children’s worker, is planning a ‘Movie Night’ in St Mary’s room every third Saturday of the month at 7pm , curtains up at 7.30pm!! (check our calendar for details). First Movie night on the 15th of May. Aimed at 10-13 year olds it will offer the young people a place to enjoy a good film. So bring your cushion/bean bag and enjoy, do bring a friend, no parents required!! These are our tentative first ideas and response to the community requests so far. We would love to hear from you on what other activities we could put on or ways we can open the room up further (see who's who for contact details). With thanks Tim Mills [30th April 2010]
From: The Revd John Boyce Many thanks to Jacky Ward and all those ladies of Ticehurst who have been knitting away for TOOLS WITH A MISSION. As you no doubt know, this is a Christian charity that sends refurbished trade tools to underdeveloped countries to enable local people to begin to earn a living and so become more self-sufficient. The knitted clothes are used as packing around vulnerable items that are being shipped out. On arrival the garments, like the tools, are given to those who need them.
The latest national newsletter “TWAMlines” has this to say under the heading ‘Knitting and Nattering’: “We do really appreciate all the work done by the many knitting and nattering groups around the country.” Ron Endean. [18th April 2010]
PHOTO RECORD OF THE BUILD David Billinghurst has kindly presented to St. Mary’s a photo record of the build, from the cutting of the first sod - to the topping out - and on to the blessing by Bishop John Hind.
